Having a collection of special toys, games, crafts and activities can be very helpful to work from home moms whose children are home as they work.

Maybe you are a super mom who juggles full time motherhood with a full time work from home job. Perhaps you are a work from home mom whose childcare falls through from time to time and you find yourself entertaining the children as you try to work. In either case it helps to plan ahead so you have activities for kids on hand whenever you need them.

Kids Travel Toys

Work from home moms know there are times when the house must be quiet or nothing productive is going to be accomplished. For example, when you need to speak to clients by phone, you need activities for kids that won't become background noise for your phone call. Kids travel toys are excellent for these occasions.

There are a multitude of kids travel toys available at local toy stores and department stores as well as online. Good ideas for kids travel toys to put in your collection include:

  • Crayola Color Wonder sets
  • Melissa and Doug magnetic puzzles
  • Magnadoodle products

Kids Educational Toys

Keeping a special tote filled with educational toys for kids is a great way for work from home moms to keep the children engaged in something mentally stimulating. Fill a large tote with any educational kid toy you think might appeal to your crew.

If you need some inspiration for educational kids toys, here are some brands that you can count on for providing quality, educational toys:

  • Leapfrog
  • Vtech
  • Learning Resources

Craft Kits for Kids

Craft kits for kids are the best friends of work from home moms. You can get craft kits for kids designed for specific age groups so that your children can assemble their craft projects with minimal instruction from you.

Some work from home moms like to put together their own simple craft kits for kids. Make your own basic craft kit with nothing more than a glue stick, a piece of cardstock and odds and ends from your junk drawer. Let the kids make a mixed media collage. They will love the variety of materials and you get the added bonus of including a bit of cleaning into your day since you'll be removing some of the clutter from your home.

Kids Books on CD

Many work from home moms find kids books on CD to be the perfect way to encourage learning and literacy in their children when they are not able to read to the children themselves. While there is no comparison to hearing Mom read the story, listening to the talented storytellers who read the kids books on CD is a close second.

You can purchase kids books on CD from places like Amazon or Scholastic, but you may find it wise to rent them instead. Do a search for audio book rentals to find a service that will work for you. Better yet, check out your local library who likely has stacks of kids books on CD waiting to be checked out for free.

Work from home moms who plan ahead can eliminate the stress that often accompanies the dichotomy of working from home and being a mom. One you have assembled several collections of activities for kids, you can pull them out on a rotating basis so that you always have something ready when the need arises.
